How to use a conditioner bar: 3 ways + tips
You've already found your shampoo bar and now you want to switch your whole hair routine to bars. A conditioner bar is the logical next step. But how do you get such a solid bar into your hair? It's easier than you think.
Why does a conditioner bar deserve a place in your shower?
Shampoo cleanses your hair, conditioner cares for it. After washing, your hair cuticles are open, which makes your hair tangle and frizz more easily. A conditioner closes those cuticles again, so your hair becomes soft, shiny and easy to comb through.
A solid conditioner does exactly the same as a bottle, but in solid form. It's also easy to take with you when you travel.
What exactly is a conditioner bar?
Good to know
A conditioner bar is a concentrated, solid conditioner without water. WONDR conditioner bars are made up of as much as 30% nourishing butters, so a tiny amount of product is enough for your whole length.
Every WONDR conditioner bar is built around superfoods for your hair:
- Cocoa butter: nourishes and hydrates your hair.
- Rosemary extract: helps keep your hair strong and supple.
- Oat extract: makes your hair incredibly soft.
- Sunflower oil: gives your hair its shine back.
The bars are vegan, cruelty-free and biodegradable. No nasties, just good ingredients.
What comes first: shampoo or conditioner?
Always shampoo first, then conditioner. Shampoo cleanses your scalp and hair, then conditioner cares for your lengths and ends.
If you do it the other way round, you rinse the care straight off again. Also, don't apply the conditioner bar to your scalp. Your scalp already produces its own sebum, so extra care there can make your hair look greasy faster.
3 ways to use a conditioner bar
Every method starts the same way: wash your hair with shampoo, rinse out all the foam and gently squeeze the excess water out of your hair. That way you don't dilute the conditioner.
1. As a regular conditioner
- Soften the bar. Hold the conditioner bar under warm water for about 20 seconds, so the butters soften.
- Apply. Rub the bar over the lengths and ends of your hair.
- Let it sink in. Give the conditioner 1 to 2 minutes.
- Rinse out. Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.
2. As a leave-in conditioner
- Towel-dry your hair. Damp is fine, dripping wet is not.
- Soften the bar. Hold the conditioner bar under warm water for about 20 seconds.
- Apply lightly. Gently rub the bar over your lengths and ends. A few strokes are enough.
- Done. No rinsing needed, you're ready to go straight away.
Ideal when you're short on time. Handy, right?
3. As a hair mask
- Soften the bar. Hold the conditioner bar under warm water for about 20 seconds.
- Apply generously. Rub the bar over the full length of your hair and your ends.
- Let it work. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and let the mask sink in for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Rinse out. Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.
For the best result, use your conditioner bar as a hair mask no more than 1 time per week.
What happens if you don't rinse your conditioner out properly?
If conditioner residue is left behind, your hair can look flat, heavy and greasy more quickly. Your scalp can also become irritated by leftover product.
So rinse until your hair no longer feels slippery. Have fine hair? Then rinse for extra long and pay particular attention to your neck and the back of your head, because residue hangs on there most easily.
